I test drove one when they first appeared, it was whatever the top model was called cant remember, It drove well, acceleration good, road holding good enough, interior not bad- it was noisy, road noise was marked and that was by comparison with a Preg Rover 100 GSi 1.4. It looked ok for the time. It was the same level as the Fiat which was its contemporary which I also tested. At that stage in the MGRover story if the CityRover had been a really good all singing dancing Ohc/turbo/4wd tested in Artic and Sahara conditions for five years, wiped your aqr-e, 60mpg it still wouldn't have been acceptable,every "expert" had done their worst. They all had their disaster stories which they repeated without much challenge. Chris S.
