Default diagnostics on the cheap?

I found this item whilst looking for something else (like you do) http://www.tvdeals.tv/index.php?main...roducts_id=112. It seems to support the correct protocols, could someone who knows these things tell if it would fit

I'm suspicious of the tech details.

It list diagnostics over CAN, but has no CAN interface. It also only has 9600 and 38400 Baud, where most up to date systems use 10400.

Anyway, it might work as a scantool because the protocols mught be OK for OBD, but the diagnostic routines that the testbook uses are unique to Rover and it's unlikely there's any code.

So yes you'd probably get something, but don't expect a full diagnostic capability on anything.

Erm... the RS232 interface to the PC uses this baud rates, the CAN itself is different (and not RS232).
Still it is useless for most, since it is hard to find a serial I/F on notebooks nowadays. Otherwise, I would have tried it on my Eee-PC...

For not much more you can get a Half decent bit of Kit from Rover Ron.
Hit the banner at top of Page to see the two available.
Nothing currently available will give the Information and results of a T4.

But the interface to the PC is USB according to the spiel. (although I accept the picture shows 9 pin D).

The output protocol (connection to laptop) is USB.
I know that CAN is different to RS232. For my sins I deal with CAN and LIN and have even dabbled in MOST.
