That was how it was with my last attempt with the dmgrs stat. (I may have damaged the first one, which barely reached 80). I only changed to.the wahler one after the last dmgrs, because I was convinced more could.be had. Wahler do a 92 version, but hens teeth are easier.and cheaper to buy. Never being.impressed by the quality of the gates, circoli and first line ones (which were as asnear identical to each other, in both materials, construction and results), I figured the brass construction of the wahler made it worth a shot.

When it arrived, I compared the water tightness of the wahler with a new first line one I had. The first line one lost all water in its bowl very quickly, whereas after 5 mins the wahler was retaining 3/4s of its fill.

The proof though was in its fitment. Initial opening temp is 88 degrees, 90 if it is under load, and maintains 86 whilst cruising after its first opening.

while you are all talking degrees could you please tell me where your temperature needle sits?

I have never looked at the digital temperature, just the needle so have no idea what mine gets so and go solely by the needle, hence I ask where your needle sits.

Unless I get to a motorway or a long run my car does not get very hot as my speed is no more then 50 for a mile or so and then 40 perhaps for 4 to 5 miles and 30 for mile and a half.

The standard gauge is designed to first hit the 'normal' (9 0'clock) mark at 75°C and stay there until/unless the coolant reaches 115°C. So, not much use for really knowing what's going on. It becomes useful (and too late), at 116°C and above, when the needle will rapidly go asymptotic. The red light pops within about ten degrees above that point

If you need to know, there's only one way.

Second the wahler stat.

Dmgrs stat failed after 8 / 9 months.

I'm also found that his stats did not fully close and allowed coolant to pass ton the radiator before "officially" opening. Meaning it took much longer to reach the right temp. Although still better than without.

Maybe. You could be running all the time at 75C, which is too low. All you know is it's somewhere between 75C and 115C. One's too low and the other's too high. Or as I call it:

Unless you have super-intuition and super-reflexes, you won't know that or have time to respond early enough without running the trip screen in diagnostic Mode. You can do that when driving - or you can fit a better gauge.

I’ll third the wahler stat. Fitted one to father in laws car a few weeks ago. He said it’s the 1st time he’s smelled heat....😆
I find that their construction makes them more suitable for installation in the top hose than others, as they have a body with a rounded profile mating with the hose, rather than a “sharp” flange.
I don’t have a picture to hand to show what I mean.
Clf...have you a photo?

Do you have a link for the wahler stat, I have a DMGRS top hose stat, heater works ok but I'd prefer the engine ran a bit hotter, best I ever get is 86°. Thanks.

TC, I have had a go at following these instructions https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...ght=diagnostic

First time I have ever tried to go to diagnostic mode.

My engine was cold as it has been standing for a few days. My outside temperature was showing 7.5 when not in diagnostic mode, in diagnostic mode section 7 my coolant showed as ---000 I would have expected similar to 7.5.
Is 000 what you would expect on a cold engine?
