A good question Mike that I am glad that you have asked and you probably wish you hadn't.

In a nutshell, shandy made with draught beer has to be sold in metric.

The reason for this is that the EU Units of Measurement Directive (the one where Brussels allowed us to sell pints) did not include shandy.
However, the directive didn't specify any quantity, so it was deemed that shandy could be served in any quantity you like, as long as it is metric.

The quantity that was universally accepted by the British pub industry was 568ml and 284ml and should have a sign stating that this is the metric amount sold.
