Please tell me you have your own cinema room with projector connected to the video player and all your tapes on show ready to watch?

I recall watching cool hand luke in the common room of the polytechnic hall of residence I was in in 1987. It was played on what was then an old betamax machine someone had. Talk about living on the edge.

Well!
That's a collection and a half, back in the early 1980's I had an old friend called Bill Birchall who swore by Betamax over VHS and, it's true that the quality was better but the big name VHS makers edged out Betamax in the end, I spotted your copy of The Graduate with the famous pose on the cover, not many realise that the leg wasn't Anne Bancroft, it was in fact Linda Gray of Dallas fame.
Best wishes. The film Absolution you have is a great film, it was largely funded by Richard Burton himself and my friend Keith Macey (youtube member Cortinaman63) has a small part in it. Last edited by Saga Lout; 15th March 2021 at 08:34.. |

What an incredible collection you have Paul, and I thought I was the only one that was stuck in the 80's.
I remember when some filling stations also became video rental shops, you could stop in and get your fuel and hire out the latest VHS or Beta video film. The rear of the store was always dark and gloomy, it would be separated from the rest of the store with long thick curtains that went from floor to ceiling. It was a section where kids could not enter (only adults), a place where you would find you're dad coming out from behind the certain with a tall stack of naughty VHS video films neatly placed under his arm. My mates and I always looked forward to the weekly trip to the petrol station. I still have a VHS machine, its a Sony and in perfect working order, all setup under the TV along with all the other electrical crud. I still have a dozen 80's FUJI Super Pro E-30min blank VHS tapes still in their cellophane, plus many 80/90's and 00's films on VHS, not as many as you though. I'm a big fan of the 80's technology and have a collection of 80's ghetto-blasters, the radio cassette type (not CD). This past six months I've actually serviced them all with new belts, they all now work and I'm currently sorting them out to display them as a 80's Dixons/Currys store display within the home, this is something I enjoyed as a kid. I would spend many an hour in my local electrical shop or the small Currys/Dixons store, the 70/80's HIFI defined a decade in my book. I've also done the same with my 80's car stereo cassette players, several are now working with new belts and my best one is in my 86 Capri. There is one certain model that I am after and that is the Kenwood KRC999, it's a stunning piece of 80's technology which is massively collectable and carries a very hefty price tag. It's a funny old world, all these different interests that people have. Last edited by Dallas; 17th March 2021 at 21:04.. |
