Angry Disaster!

Just taken a freezer for disposal down the refuse tip and then took the opportunity to go tp B&Q. I bought 5L of Harvest Gold fence paint which I put in the back of the tourer.

On the way home I had to do an emergency brake because of an idiot on my side of the road. Did not think any more about it until I got home and opened up the back. There was 5L of paint everywhere as the top had popped off the can. As the back seats were folded down it has gone all over the back of them and soak through to the seats.I have managed to clean up the leather but the velour is ruined.
Really angry as although my car was not immaculate it was a very tidy example.

OMG awful.
If you have any kiln dryed sand, salt, anything drier than the paint. Cover the areas of spillage with it then sweep it into dustpan then get the vacuum cleaner on it. Better with wet n dry vac if you can get hold of one.
Then repeat the process until you make progress.
You won't get it all out and you'll find sand in there for months to come. I did a similar thing with my 218 some years ago it never looked exactly the same but I put a seat cover on it and put some extra carpeting the back.

Hope you get it sorted 👍

Same thing happened to my sister when a 5L tin of emulsion fell over in the rear footwell when travelling home from B&Q. It's a painfull lesson but you cannot rely on the lid staying on if a tin of paint falls over and must secure it. Really sorry to hear about the mess and hope you manage put it right.

what rotten luck, has happened to me several times when I worked as a decorator but that was in work motors, not my pride and joy thankfully. Water based paints will clean IF you can keep the affected areas wet. Once dry its worse than oil based unfortunately. iTS A BIG IF THOUGH, sounds like youve passed the point of no return.

I did work as quick as I could but the first thing I had to do was mop up 5 litres of paint

Accidental damage Mike, literally. It's the sort of thing that insurance is supposed to be there for.

You are correct. However if I claimed they would want to right the car off and even if I bought the car off them it is my NCD that would take a hit.

You are right but as I am never going to sell it I still have a good car. It is still in better condition than the builders yard in the back of Dave Lincs old tourer

You are right. We are required to have insurance but it's so often of no use whatsoever.
