Default Under body sealer !!!

As many know i purchased my orange grove ztt cdti 3 years ago, known as GROVEY,who ever has owned grovey previous has looked after her with love and attention as i do myself, the point of the post is as good as they look on top is not always a good sign,im not sure who under body sealed her and what with has caused a real rust problem.it seams a good idea at the time but all its done is make everything rust under the sealer,im currently rubbing down and rust and treating with jenolite the whole underside of the body, ready to hammerite and paint the subframe and suspension parts, nothing at all is salvagable at all even the bolts have had to be taken out with rounded bolt removers due to corrosion if she wasnt my labour of love and my transport to meet my maker when the time comes im not sure what i would of done, this is just a heads up that underbody corrosion treatment doesn’t always make things easier later on down the line,i will take pics as i proceed and try to post on the forum.on a last note this post isnt knocking anybodys work or actions of previous owners thanks matt

Hi Matt.

I'm not convinced about the effectiveness of the current Hammerite paints. They used to be brilliant but the ones I've used recently are so-so.

Might be worth looking at Bilt Hamber prducts. They get very good reviews.

All the best with it - not a particularly "nice" job .

The only thing I have used for over 40 years is Waxoyle.Never been disappointed.I can see the difference in my diesel car that has had it slapped on every year, and the petrol one I bought from my son. The petrol is twelve months younger than the diesel, and you can tell the difference. They have both done the same amount of miles .They are not rotten by any means, but the petrol one has more rusty nuts than the diesel. This will be rectified later when the weather is a bit warmer.

I also have my doubts about modern hammerite, I think it may be in the same category as creosote and red oxide - both now very inferior.

not a particularly nice job in fact a particularly unenjoyable job.

I also have gone off Hammerite. It used to have a thick body and a shiny finish but the last two tins that I have had, I've gone over with waxoyle or underbody wax to seal it properly. (Dynax S50 or UB )

I'm an old fashioned Waxoyl fan from the days when you could only buy gallon cans by mail order. I have to confess these days to have gone off the 5ltr can route given the faffing about warming it up etc to get it to spray in favour of the aerosol cans which I have used to good effect on both our cars.
The OP's location near the coast will not help in keeping corrosion at bay.

Wasn’t me Matt!!

Got some decent red oxide primer and coat everything a few times before using your top coat.

If you have any boat builders near you, pop in and get some of the stuff they paint on metal.

There’s ingredients removed from many paints to make it more environmentally friendly but utterly useless for its intended use
