OMG What a Rabbit Hole!

I opened this thread hoping to find a how-to giving hints on pressing Powerflex bushings into the original mount but WOW! What a journey.

I am expecting my poly bushes to be delivered on Monday so that's the type I am going with. Does anyone have any tips for pressing in the large poly bushing as per Dawn's request last December?
I have done them on MGF's before using a Lotus poly bushing, but if I recall they were 2-part bushes on the large end.

With the one piece bushing I expect it will just need a bit of deburring on the hole, possibly heating in hot water to soften it a bit, plenty of lube and press it in.(Ahem) Any additional tips?

I didn't trust myself to do it so ended up with a standard one. So far so good.

Default Chinese Mount

I have still not had time to remove the mount I fitted in November, to check how it is wearing, the vibration as got a little worse, also feeling a bit of clunking.

As soon as the Nano meet is over this weekend I will get onto it and report back these mounts can now be purchased for as little as £18.00 maybe the reason for the drop in price is because of the above.

Well, That wasn't much fun.
I installed the poly bushings today, what an awkward job.
Things came apart quite well. The O2 sensor was in the way of the rear bushing bolt but a bit of levering got the exhaust shifted. Seems the power unit had been floating around with the bushing collapsed.
The old bushing was totally shot, the center having broken away fron the mount. I hacksawed the metal bushing sleeve and drifted the old bushing out. Then the fun began. I spent way too long trying to get the new bushing in and finally resorted to using a C-clamp (G-clamp to you Brits) as a third hand to help hold the bushing in place while I used Arctic's broomstick trick to force the rim into place. What a relief when it popped into place!
More engine levering got it back into the car and I was relieved to find that no damage had been done to the exhaust. It seems the very sporty exhaust note must be due to the innards of the silencers having given up the ghost.
While the undertray was off I replaced a couple of missing fasteners and got everything buttoned back up.
Just dealing with some very sore arthritic hands after that job so the test drive can wait till tomorrow.
Next job-Belts and water pump in September. Something to look forward to

Steve, I think there are at least 3 types of 'Chinese' mount with the angled rubber an larger metal centre:

1.8 - KKH101372 marked with 'Tuo Pu' (confusingly using original part no.), Roewe OEM

If anybody knows better, please correct me.

Now, has anybody had problems with the Roewe 'Tuo Pu' made mount for the 2.5V6? Made by the Roewe OEM I believe, so should be good, unless anybody knows better. Any experiences?

Question

I was advised to buy a new lower rear engine mount (by none other than engineer expert Marinabrian), but have yet to fit it.

There was no mention of needing it on a recent MOT...so how do I know that it needs changing? What are the tell-tale signs to look for? Brian seemed to know from just listening to the engine, or maybe he just 'knew' I would be needing one soon. Or his T4 diagnostic told him..? Whatever, I'm sure he knows what he is talking about, so replaced it will be...when funds become available. I have no place or equipment to do repairs myself, unfortunately, so needs to go to a garage - anybody know how long this sort of job takes, and therefore likely cost?

Half an hour labour - I would be delighted if a garage only charged me that much! thanks.

On the diesel cars if your car as an under tray, to remove as well then I would say if working off ramps a person at home would be able to changed the mount in about 20 minutes.

If using a two poster or four poster lift at a garage then less time 10 minutes the most, I am sure there must be a member whom is close to you that could help out if you are not able to fit it your self, hopefully someone will come forward for you. cheers Arctic
