Rigged up an electrolysis bucket to clean up a front and rear caliper, following some info from on here.
I’ll see what the front caliper looks like in the morning, but it appears to be bubbling away nicely. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Today I changed the engine oil in my ZT and removed the badges from the hubcabs in preparation for wheel refinishing next week.
Tomorrow's jobs are, wash the ZT and get the MGF insured for the summer, and give it a proper test drive to see if I got the gearbox reassembled properly.

Found a slight leak on the rear offside light lens allowing water in after all the rain we have been having. It was evidently done before by the looks of it by my son, but on reassembly, the small location peg at the bottom was not located properly. Took it off, two minute job. Got rid of all the old sealant from round the light aperture on the body. The sealant came off the gasket no problem. Put sealant on the gasket, and located it back on the casing, then applied sealant round the opening for the unit to go back into, and fitted it to the body. Time taken 35 minutes. Took me longer to shift the old silicon off the body, than to do everything else. That was yesterday. Been out this morning to check after a night of rain and everything nice and dry.

This is what it looked like this morning, after 2 mins of poking the crud off with a screwdriver and a quick rinse. And then 5 mins with the wire brush on the drill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

None. Just dipped a “spare” set into the electrolysis bucket. The front and rear passenger callipers on the duotone have been sticking. Tried freeing them up several times, but it hasnt worked. The cars been lying up over winter, so I’m just getting ready to replace in the good weather. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

MOT time, due 14th April. I have been happily crashing down sub standard roads for the last 10k miles ignoring the clanking from front suspension, airbag light, ABS light and the grinding when it goes over bumps. Thankfully the pending MOT focuses the mind to get the car back up to roadworthy standard.
Over the weekend had a good coat of looking at, the clanking appears to have been solved by chucking 2 new cheap droplinks on, with added grease. The grounding over bumps was fixed with some penny washers from Toolstation 84p, the exhaust heat shield was hanging on exhaust. TOAF used to pinpoint airbag light to front passenger seat, unplugged and plugged in a few times and it has now gone out, wish they were all that cheap and easy fixes. TOAF pinpointed ABS fault to front right wheel, it seems to be failing static test, so hopefully sensor and not the bearing. While the wheel was off doing droplinks I noticed it now resembles a 50p piece more than round shape, I drive down back roads to works and the pot holes have battered it. New ABS sensor ordered and I will have to source a Serpent alloy or may need to ditch then for crowns. Corrosion wise this one is good for a Y reg, all rear suspension replaced last year so hopefully once the ABS light is out it will be ready for MOT. The joys of trying to scrape a 19 year old car through MOT on a budget. Sent from my MI 5C using Tapatalk |
