Another defeat...
Hi folks,
I am trying, really trying, to find a good 75 Tourer/ZTT in Slovakia (not there just yet, but soon). Back around Christmas I thought I had found it - perfect spec for me except for not having leather - 2004 75 Tourer CDT with the 96kw map, manual, 96,000 kms, from Italy so zero rust. In the pictures it looked like a million bucks. But, I wasn't fast enough. Someone else bought it. Fast forward 3 months and I see it's for sale again by the new owner. Now it has 102,000 kms so it had a busy 3 months. That's OK, must be reliable. Seller says he likes to buy & sell cars, it's a hobby. He says everything is good on the car. It now has a new battery (dealer installed before he bought it), air conditioning serviced and new front axles. It had just passed its import, safety and emissions inspections in January. Must be good right? We agreed on a price. My friends drove 3.5 hours to buy it for me. They looked it over. The weatherstripping on the driver's door is worn and has a piece cut out of it. The rubber pedal pads are worn. They took it for a drive and found that it pulls to the right when driving and pulls to the left when braking. The windshield washer doesn't work. My friend who is very experienced with cars swears it has at least double the indicated mileage or more. Now that I think about it, why would it need new axles (CV joints) in only 100,000 kms? The other wear and tear indicators definitely show more than 100,000 kms. So, either someone altered the odometer display or it had a VERY hard life in the few kms it covered. It just doesn't seem like it's going to work out for me and MGR. I'm so disappointed. Back to looking at Octavia 1.9 TDi Combis and Passat 1.9 TDi Variants... Not cheers, Glenn

Why not buy one in Germany? Look one up on www.mobile.de and ask the seller to arrange export license plates + insurance. Hop on a Flixbus or train, pick the car up, drive home.
