True. Like a kick down. That may be the différence : CC on eco smooth acceleration and CC on sport mode kick down.
But why not to tell it and 'prohibiting' it ?

I had a Fiat 128 Estate back in the day John and that had a hand throttle on the dashboard which did the same thing - thought it was a choke when I first got it.

I use the Cruise control all the time on my cdti manual and it works a treat.

I use CC a lot and where others don't get using it, I don't get not using it.
As for quiet roads here are roads that are not quiet but where I use CC A35, A31, A34, M40, M1, M42, A42, M3, M27. So from time to time I need to disengage it, its not hard now is reengaging it.
I agree adaptive CC would be a step up but then there are many steps up one could take over driving a Rover 75.
I don't need miles and miles of road to use cc, I'll use it for just a mile so that I can be certain I don't speed. If following other traffic that then speeds up, I do not sub consciously push the throttle to keep up with them only to find I speed

I find cc more relaxing, my speed more constant, easier on my right leg.

I think this is another topic where some like "x" and some don't.

Never use it, on mannual diesel you will get muscle imbalances of the legs. The heavy left leg action of the clutch needs to be balanced out with a constant work out on the right leg,. CC use would lead to muscle wastage of right leg. North West roads are not CC friendly, no chance on M6 here.

I once woke up and realized I had missed my turn off. I was riding my Honda V65 Sabre (VF1100S) - alone! That was a shock!

Edit: Oh yes, back on topic - I had a Vista Cruise cruise control but it was not engaged.

I make heavy use of it for relaxed, laid back driving, just set the speed and it holds it quite nicely without my constantly looking at the speedo. You can set it as low as 20mph, if you try hard enough, but 21/22 is a bit easier.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Enjoy the trip but you are getting into the silly season but still should enjoy it.
