If having a V6 I’d say the 2.5 is better than the 2.0 having driven quite a few I find the 2.5 is a smoother ride, the auto’s Can be a bit thirsty road tax can also be high compared to a manual diesel, last v6 I had was £325 a year road tax and did around 27MPG of mixed driving, on the upside it was nice to drive and very pleasant, however don’t forget the belts/water pump/thermostat/etc better to do them all in one go.

The ride is harder on the MG than the Rover, thats assuming the suspension is factory spec.

I can get 26mpg out of my V8 ZTT 400. Or if the pedal goes down to far it will drop to 8mpg.

My V6 2 litre petrol auto is fine for me (doddering pensioner) and gives 25 - 35 mpg (top on long runs). I've driven a 1.8 NA and a turbo and prefer the smoothness of the 2.0 with the auto box. My 1.8NA gave me around 10% more on fuel economy than the 2.0 petrol. The diesel auto is probably as quick but I don't like diesels (noisy and smelly) or turbos (quart into a pint pot)! The v6 is smooth and quiet until you push it, when it sounds luvverly! It's horses for courses and a lot of personal preference. so no arguments please folks, it's just my opinion.

Diesel or 1.8 turbo. The latter is a reliable engine no matter what people say about the k series and plenty of power and smooth. The V6 is smooth too but very very disappointing in terms of power, especially low down where it’s flat as a pancake.

The 2.0 V6 was never a big seller back in the day, and was dropped by Rover in favour of the cleaner and more economical 1.8 turbo, part-way through the 75's life. Hence I'd doubt there are too many left to buy now. The 2.0 V6 was also never used in the MG's.
The 2.5V6 is lovely and smooth, can nudge 40mpg on a run at sensible speed but as others have said, will drop into the mid 20's around town, especially with an auto box. Service & maintenance are very important (as with anything mechanical ), so try to ensure anything you buy has had regular oil & filter changes If you go for the ZT-T, ride will always be harder as they have lower profile 18" tyres and stiffer suspension (and you're very unlikely to find one with 75 springs !) Earliest cars, maybe from the first year or so of production, had even harder settings, but these were softened slightly due to customer feedback

ive got a kv6 zt a kv6 rover 75 and a 75 diesel.
Power wise the turbo diesel wins hands down but you beed to live with more noise and vibration. Kv6 smoother but less power |

Having owned 1.8L and 2.5L with auto gearbox, I would never go back to 1.8L.
Firstly it was very slow to react, you have to really drive all to time in sport mode to get car nicely going. Secondly, the fuel consumption in real life with auto box 1.8L was almost the same as 2.5L. Maybe saving you 1,5L/100km with 1.8L engine. Also the 1.8L had already second engine (under warranty) and I know now, that the current owner has it on sale for repairs or spares, because again problems with engine. |

Best engine: 2.0l CDTi 135- ultra reliable in my ZTs
Then, 4.6l V8 - never gone wrong since January 2011 when I bought the car Then 2.5l V6 - had mine since early 2014 - no problems but expense of belts / pump etc when needed Last and poorest 1.8Ti - owned from new and cylinder head gaskets gone twice and repaired twice but not for a third time - will be scrapped when I get around to it Four ZTs in our family and three are roadworthy and one 75 above. As to mpg the diesel consistently does high forties to the gallon - 26,000 miles each and very year. Steve |
