Hello Geert,
Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, I was able to fix the 999999 error. It was some time ago now so not sure how helpful I can be. I remember it being a very long drawn out process, mainly because I hadn't done a repair like this before so I was learning as i went. As I had had no luck trying to access the EEPROM with readers and diagnostics etc, I purchased a new EEPROM and gave it to a friend who was able to use data from the existing EEPROM and with a bit of programming was able to supply me with a working chip which when soldered in restored full operation to the IPK. Precisely what he did I don't know but will learn this process hopefully as I have another Rover I just purchased with exactly the same issue. I hope in the meantime your able to fix the problem. I was fed up by the time I finally got the error fixed before and didn't really pay much attention to the details but certainly will follow it carefully this time and be able to do it myself. Sorry am not able to be more helpful. Steve. |

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your response! Does your friend still know how to do it and is he willing to share? ;-) As it's the car of a friend and he's using it, I have limited time to test stuff. Hopefully I can report some stuff within 2 weeks. I know where the mileage is stored, but I'm not sure if it's enough to only restore the mileage, or that it should be completely reprogrammed (making it virgin first) because also other information can be corrupted... Best regards, Geert |

It's been some time now, but I have had the opportunity to test now: it is sufficient to only correct the mileage! You need to (re)program the eeprom for this, but you don't need to make it virgin, only adjust the mileage area!
