The diagnostic test for a failed low speed fan system will confirn my thoughts. Run the 'Demist Test' and report back. It's likely that the low speed has failed and the aircon system is causing this effect due to the cycling over-pressurisation of the refrigerant.
You need to confirm whether your 2001 model has the earlier 3-speed fan or a later 2-speed replacement. This will affect the fix proceedure. TC |

Apart from the fan issues common to all models, the diesel has a unique control system which depends on a printed circuit board located in the box behind the fan frame. The PCB is a well known vulnerability and can cause abnormal fan behaviour. If this becomes the prime suspect, the fault is fixable by FrenchMike.
