Anyway, long story short I need a new inline stat. Where's the best place to buy a chevy stat or similar and how much should I be expecting to pay? Oh btw, prior to installing the inline stat, the car was running at approximatley 67-68 with an average of 40mpg. When I installed the 92degree stat this went up to 47mpg but I thought the temperatures were a bit too variable. When I installed the original SC stat (88degree i think, with the hole blocked) i got around 45mpg. I"m back down to 41-42mpg with the running temp falling again to 75max. These figures were all done by brim to brim calcs. Although i can't say that they were over the same driving conditions (ie doing a lot of motorway at the moment so mpg would be less anyway) they were an average over a decent amount of miles (2000+ each). Just though i'd share the knowledge.

I run with a 91c stat no hole and no issues I think it is possible to get paranoid about watching the obd, car manufacturers damp the water temp reading for good reasons I reckon if your temp gauge never moves above the middle it is fine whilst 100 is boiling point in free air it doesn't have that much relevance in a pressurised system, don't most modern petrol engines run at least that hot? |

I don't suppose anyone knows what size the O-Ring in the SC housing is? I damaged mine when changing the stat last time and I'd like to be able to get one before I open it.

The wider part is the bit that pushes into the hose, the thin part toward the engine.
You don't have to push it in too far, push it completely inside the hose with the thin part of the bulb about 10mm inside the end. It doesn't need securing, just make sure it sits centrally within the hose. Russ
