If not in a major rush to clear it out you could try flushing it with a mix of hot water with 3 or 4 descaling tablets dissolved in it. Leave it for a couple of hours and then flush through again with hot water.

That's good Thanos. Here are some tips from me for whoever is doing the work:
  • After fitting the new thermostat housing, ensure that the plastic clips on the straight pipe are pushed fully outwards. This will lock the assembly rigidly and prevent any future 'O' ring leakage.
  • Use distilled/de-ionised water, not tap water, for your antifreeze solution to prevent future matrix blockages.
  • Follow the official MG Rover bleeding and refilling process exactly. Let me know please if you don't have it.
