These Mat supplies, but you could go down the Phillips or Osram route, but be surprised at the price
Assuming of course, you have factory xenons?

I find front fog lights put their light "just in front" of the car wehre head lights shine down the road. At any decent speed I suspect I'd hit an object in the road without headlights on and only front fogs on.

They do help to see the verges on country roads, headlights don't really show this.

Fogs and dipped headlights on at the same time

Dipped headlights just can't compete with the blindness caused by oncoming zenons, especially on big vans on country lanes - whoever is in charge of specifying these thigs needs shooting.
So in wet miserable weather, at dusk especially, it's dipped ligjts and fogs for me - and anyway, they're no brighter than the drls on modern cars - assuming of course the fogs are correctly adjusted.

I must admit the only time I use my fog lights is for the MOT test .

This is covered by rules of the Highway code, which states that they should only be used in visibility of less than 100 metres, and switched off again when visibility improves.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-high...to-237#rule226

A mate of mine was pulled over, for (accidentally) having them switched on during good visibility.

As said though, the advent of such things as DRLs, HID headlights etc can be equally distracting for other road users.

The bulk of my driving is on unlit country roads.

I use the front 'fogs' for extra illumination of the verge. Unusually, the 75's ones are adjustable (well, on Mk2 ZT they are...) so both have been adjusted downwards somewhat.

The lack of any sort of beam shaping (i.e. they have no prismatic lens or shaped reflector) makes me wonder if they are true fog lights...
