Fuel vs Fuel
Is it really worth the extra pennies buying branded fuel rather than supermarket? I have read branded fuel has more additives which are good for your engine.... but are they? Branded fuels are so expensive, I almost faint when I drive past them.......

Yes - also buy the best branded fuel - Shell V-Max.
ps that should have read V Power. I had the Yamaha V-Max in my head for some reason! Last edited by MSS; 3rd January 2019 at 12:43.. |

I was told by a tanker driver the ordinary fuel on the supermarket forecourt is the same fuel that goes out to garages and that only the few "super" type fuels they sell are in fact of any better quality. |

My experiences:
Esso branded fuel would make the plugs foul with yellow deposits on my Honda powered rover. Not isolated as it happened at two stations. Chrysler running lpg (should run on the worst American jungle juice possible), running supermarket makes it misfire - I think its probably the gap in octane ratings of gas and petrol. Kia diesel seems to regen less and slight increase in mpg if running a premium diesel. MG6 petrol demands only the dirtiest and cheapest fuel, anything without twigs in and starting becomes strained with a lumpy initial cold idle. |

https://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/arch...SAAEgJCGfD_BwE I would assume that it adds a lot of the lubricants and detergents that the tanker adds to the premium storage tanks at the branded garages upon delivery as described in this thread. It also ups the cetane rating ( or octane in the petrol version ) several notches. A bottle this size treats 15 full tank loads on a Rover 75 and works out at about £1.35 a tank full extra as opposed to £6.60 when filling up with premium fuel at a branded garage. You can usually buy it cheaper than the price in the link if you nose about the internet a little. I'm not suggesting that you do but it may be a far cheaper alternative if you are thinking of using premium fuel. No doubt someone will be along shortly to detail their own experiences and why you should or shouldn't use it but I tried it out and my engine is purring like a kitten with it in the tank and flew through the emissions test recently ( fingers tightly crossed that I haven't tempted fate now) not that my car was running badly anyway to be honest but it really is running as smooth as silk. I'm not bothered about using it all the time but it certainly doesn't seem to be doing any harm every now and again as opposed to forking out another £6.60 a tank for the premium stuff...... not that I'm knocking the use of premium fuel for all the Shell V afficionado's who feel comfortable filling up with the more expensive fuel. Regardless of price, both of my Rovers get the super unleaded! Not worth the difference in cost of filling them up on cheap petrol.

But does it benefit the engine?

I chuck a bottle of Forte in a couple of times a year, keeps everything running nice. IMO
