Thumbs up K Series

I've now had five K series powered MG-R's, probably doing around 300k miles between them in my ownership. This included K14s, a K16 and K18s (only the present one is a ZT though). In that time I've had to replace 3 of their HGs. Really 2, but I had to immediately redo a failed one a garage did, with them saying the engine was scrap and offering to put in a replacement engine in for over £1k! With the HG redone at home, the original engine did another 60k in my ownership, before I sold it on. I rarely take my MG-Rs to garages now for work I can do myself. In my experience the IMG fails a lot more often, but is a lot less of a faff to do.

V6 struggles to even hit the speed limit. Awful engine. Even big Russ admits it.

For a V engine, the KV6 is woefully underpowered, it lacks the torque of a V engine.

Cool

If you must have a V then get the V8 for the power, even better if it as a Supercharger.

But give me a 1.8t anytime. This is the longest I have ever kept a car, be 9 years in 3 weeks time.

I don't know, all this talk of speed and power - when I'm in my nice, smooth V6 I'm in no hurry to get anywhere. Quite happy to be wafted along in my gentlemans club on wheels.

Arrival at the destination is always a slight disappointment.

Got a v6 auto connie and 1.8 manual club SE. Love them both. No motorways or dual carriages within miles of my house, most of the time driving at 30 - 50 mph both do the job perfectly well. Wife calls them "posh" the V6 and "comfortable" the Club SE. Ok so had to have new head and gasket on the 1.8 at 62,000 but fine ever since, economical comfortable and reliable. Would not hesitate to buy another 1.8.
