Default Check your tyres

I replaced both of my front tyres today due to having a blowout on Wednesday evening, so I was going to have the offside front as the spare however, on closer inspection the damage to the tyre shoulder was unbelievable.

It was another blowout waiting to happen, all this my tyre man said was down to potholes and the general bad state of the roads.

Check your tyre's carefully ladies and gents, you just might be glad you did.

This is why I have just replaced 2 tyres on my copperleaf rover, plenty of tread left and DOT codes in date, however noticeable deformation on both side walls, Mechanic told me it is due to potholes and speed bumps, but will be an MOT failure.

Tyre checking should be part of our weekly check along with fluids etc.

On a similar note. We probably all have "summer" tyres fitted. They don't like lower temperatures so be mindful that if the outside temperature is about 7 degrees or less the properties of summer tyres struggle to work as designed. So please leave extra braking distance and be careful when cornering.

Thanks for the alert. I had 2 front tyres blow out at the same time on the M3. I was driving back from a day out at Studland Beach on a hot day. The sunroof was open with all the windows down, doing about 80 and smelled burning rubber. I managed to pull onto the hard shoulder without incident. AA came and we had to get another tyre, as the spare wasn’t enough. What caused 2 tyres to go at the same time I don’t know, it must have been caused by the same sort of things you experienced.

Tbh I was quite shocked at the damage to the o/s front tyre, which I was going to have as a spare, its now been scrapped.
My car is checked on a daily basis and tyres are one of the checks I do, however, the shoulder damage would not have been noticeable on an inflated tyre, only when it was removed could it clearly be seen.

I travel 240 miles each week to and from work and use the A34/M40/M42.
Earlier this year the A34 was in a bad state of repair, pretty much from the M3 to M40, and I remember some of the terrible potholes on that road, one I'm sure was an entrance to middle earth, it has since been resurfaced, but the damage to mine and everyone else's car that used that road has been done.

If I could have had a pound for all of the gritted teeth expression's I've pulled when hitting one of those holes.

Bad enough in the car, you try hitting them on a motorbike
