I am with the RAC as part of my insurance cover and the age of the car has never been an issue. Used them twice for the 75, once recovered from Weymouth to Manchester on a Friday afternoon blown oil seal and once in France when the water pump gave in and never been questioned about the age.

RAC for me. It's more expensive than some but my wife and I are covered in any car. Having 4 x cars (3 of which are aged) it's the best policy for us.
Saying that I haven't used them for over 10 years. Oh no I have said it now

After many years with the RAC we've gone with GEM Motoring Assist
( www.motoringassist.com ). It covers all our classics and modern and has two levels of cover, Recovery EXTRA & Recovery RECLAIM, full details on the website. Not had to use them and hope we don't have to, but it does seem excellent value for money and reassurance. Martyn |

I’ll have a look at motoring assist. £££’s are what we’re watching out for esp as being in the NHS we can’t look forward to many pay rises!

How come mine is 18 years old? No problems when it went up this year getting it reduced. It is only around £1 difference from last year.

Both of mine are with the AA. Expensive but at least I know I’m covered.

Auto Aid for me, unfortunately had to use them this year, covers me as a person as opposed to the car. So any car I or my wife are traveling in is covered.
Recovered from around 50 miles away to home via independent recovery. No problems.

Mentioned previously on this topic.
An alternative is opening a Nationwide Flexplus account ( doesn't have to be a main account I just use mine for mortgage and general household bill payments) For an additional £13 a month they do insurances that covers myself and my wife for full breakdown cover, home or away in any car so no problems or excess charges for older cars, plus of course you're covered if in someone else's car also. Plus mobile phone and travel insurance for both of us. So that's two cars/drivers breakdown including Homestart covered, UK and European Both of our mobiles insured And both of us covered to a very decent level (£10m) of travel insurance For £156 a year all in, not a bad deal in my view including not having to pay more or scrabble about for breakdown cover for an older car. https://www.nationwide.co.uk/product...reakdown-cover Last edited by bendrick; 17th November 2020 at 10:29.. |

RAC for me-they’ve assisted me many times without questioning the car’s age, including abroad (where it’s quite difficult to get breakdown cover without an upper age clause).
Last time they were less than brilliant with their communication and would have left me waiting had I not chased, but after complaining I put this down to an ineffective call centre employee-all other times they’ve been excellent. |
