This is exactly the problem, guy I work with his sister in law, with 3 kids, gets benefits equivalent to nearly £40K a year of earned income ( after taking tax and NI off ).

She would never in a month of sunday’s be able to find a job paying that much even if she wanted to.

I've done this sort of work, back in my student days, so I've some idea of what it's like. It was alright as a short-term means to an end, but doing it long term would be a miserable existence. This is temporary work, in unpleasant conditions, for low pay, and it's often a cover for modern slavery - the use of the term "gang master" above is entirely appropriate. To me, saying that "she couldn't find a job paying that much in a month of Sundays" is actually an argument for making work pay a decent wage, and for security of employment. Who knows what sort of mad fantasy I'll come up with next ...

They should be made to take the low paid work and then their money made up at least they would be working rather than sit at home.

Twilight sings a song
All the happiness that used to be

Soon my eyes will close
Soon I'll find repose
And in dreams, you're always near to me

I'll see you in my dreams
And then I'll hold you in my dreams

Given the gangmaster's reputation, wouldn't that lead to an adjustment of the already slave-rates on offer?
