Well, thanks for everybody's help as always, but my Super Spidey Sense suggested it wouldn't be a job I could do myself, so took it to Mr T4.
N/S rear wheel bearing was damaged on the inside where the magnetic ring sits. Maybe rust or something got into it. It was missing 2/3 segments in the pickup. I was right about me not being able to do it... I'm very clever that way
