Default Trying something new

This year for the first time ever with any car I have put my 75 in to the detailers for a pre-winter protection job. Apparently the paintwork and glass is cleaned and sealed for winter.
If it's good I might take it back after winter for a summer treat.

It would be interesting to know exactly which products they are using.

There's dozens of detailing products out there which will "seal" a car. The most effective, top of the range ones can cost into 4 figures to be applied.

As with many things the preparation is everything so again it would be interesting to see what steps/stages are being done and the timeframe for completing these.

Looking forward to hearing and seeing how it goes.

Hope it turns out brilliantly (get it ).

Andy.

Yeah, that glass needs a good seal.

The amount of trouble Ive had with glass during winters, my god, if only I had got it sealed, things would have been so much better.

People don't realise how fast glass deteriorates in temperatures below 7DegC.

All members, make sure your glass is sealed for winter.

Well it's done, it took over 3 hours.
He used some sort of ceramic to seal the paintwork, not sure for the glass.
Looks good, will keep an eye on it over winter.
Sorry pics are too big.

I recently put a ceramic coating on my car, I hope it has a similar winter protection.

I was always under the impression that for something to be 'ceramic', it had to be fired in a kiln at very high temperatures (1000'C or above) for a number of hours ?

I'd guess the use of the phrase in this context should be placed alongside 'turbo' vacuum cleaners (which aren't) and 'hover' boards (which don't)

I assume 'ceramic' means it has a beautiful, glassy finish, although strictly speaking, that should be 'vitreous'.

Silly boys, even entire engines have been/are being developed made from ceramics. Ceramic materials are crystaline and can have their molecules arranged in loads of varieties, from bricks to glass. Well, that's my limited chemistry knowledge.

So the OP gets a car back that looks like a brick, or a beautiful glass-like finish that's really protective for winter.

I suggest bikini-wax for your summer finish

It is the glass-like finish, I'm glad to say.

I very much doubt it’s a proper ceramic coating as you’ll need more than three hours to prepare the paint alone without applying the coating
