As with most of his threads they are just pure fantasy and completely out of touch with reality or how we say up here “utter pish”

Good morning Les, does it matter? can we not accept it for what it is and for what he is on about and then move on, tolerance I have not read the gauge thread, as I imagine it will be like the others. I ain’t perfect and I know that, what some of the other members write up is not always agreeable or pleasing to the eye. For example there is a member who is a serial moaner and can moan for Scotland like no one else can and another member who looks like Popeye and writes up flowery twaddle that no one understands and is insightless. We tolerate them

From memory there was one attempt made to use and certify a direct drive Rover V8 de-rated to 120BHP for light aircraft use in a De-Havilland Chipmunk back in the 1970’s and I recall it did fly. Not sure what happened after that but the aircraft (G-ARB) still exists and has been reverted back to a standard Gypsy Major engine. The only other aircraft flying around with Rover engines that I’m aware of are using the TP90 and derivative gas turbines but even then your only talking around the 80-90HP mark.

Thomas I would be genuinely interested in knowing where you get these “facts and fantastic performance figures from especially when you consider that anything over 90HP in a World War 1 aircraft would tear the canvas and wings off in short shrift. Be entertaining tho

The guy who had the engine said he spent 6000 quid on it the guy was your too pilot flying falcons he said he said he got it tested and it made 530 horsepower

I must admit Chris that I've tried to point out the impending failure of his plans/dreams as nicely as I can but even I have now used the ignor button for the first time.
Cheers Ian

There is a photo of Thomas in the archives and Reebs stated he has met him. This is not the same as the Poppy Gate business. For those not around at the time, Poppy pretended to be a female member, who ultimately was found out to be a bloke and was banned as a result of breaking the club’s rules, yes he/she was a fake and must have had a troubled mind. As far as I know, Thomas is real. I won’t buy into the idea that he is a fake member. He is, who he is

Good morning Ian During the Brexit discussions, I had 4 members featured in the ignore section, as they were just plain ignorant and thick. Only one of them remains in that department. A useful forum facility

As already said by many, you have no chance whatsoever of a 3.5 V8 running SU's getting anywhere close to 530bhp I'm afraid.

I've tuned (lightened/balanced etc etc) many Rover V8 lumps & it just won't happen.

It is a fantastic engine mind you & I own two 3.5 V8 cars.

Cool

Hopefully now that Thomas's dad has joined the club we can get to the bottom of this. So the thread will remain open for a bit longer.
And yes, Thomas is a real person. I saw him with his dad at the NEC last year. They spoke to Reebs.
