K series tapping on cold start
evening all,
just been to do a couple of checks on the car and I have got a tapping on cold start, just been reading about the "purge valve" what is this and is there a way of checking it, also this noise sounds very much like the tappets, its got about 7000 miles to the next service and the dipstick is reading slightly low but I am on a hill, what oil is best for these engines I don't know because it has not been serviced since I bought and is the tapping anything I need to worry about any help appreciated, thanks

The purge valve is mounted on the side of the battery box.
When it starts, it's very much like a tappet noise. If you disconnect the connector plug the noise will stop if that's what it is. There's nothing you can do about the noise from the valve, it's normal. Use the Google based search with keyword 'STS' for threads ('Slack Tappet Syndrome'). If course it may actually be a noisy tappet (valve lifter that is). The specified engine oil is semi-synthetic 10W-40 meeting ACEA specs given below. TC |
