I'm new to the boards and have had a new stat installed in my ZT-T yesterday. I was hoping to have a poke around this morning but on pulling the release lever it just went slack.

I have read enough posts on here to realise this information can't be on a public forum, but please help!!

I would be greatful if one of the mods could send any information as to how to open it.....

Any information would be great.

Thanks for helping people.

I've been concentrating on getting better MPG and the other bits that need attention so never thought of this problem..... Well job for this afternoon is the bonnet mod...............

Hi everyone

I have the same problem with the bonnet release linkage

I bought my ZT about 2 months ago, the seller told me he had just had the bonnet release mechanism replaced. Couple of days later I popped the bonnect to show a friend the engine, no problem. 2 days after that another friend asked for a look and after pulling the release lever it suddenly went slack. Tried bouncing the bonnet a bit but it never looked like budging.

Called the guy I bought it from (under 3 months warrenty) he gave me the name and address of the garage that replaced the release mechanism. I have only just been able to find time to arrange to get down to Kent to get it looked at. No problem as far as they are gonna fix it, its just a long way to go and they say the wheel and wing liner has to come off and will take upto 4 hours.

So if there's an easier way can someone please PM with what that is?

If its a common fault it would be handy to know for the future anyway in case it goes again.

Apart from that I am very happy with the car. Very hard ride but feels like a much more expensive car and the finish especially inside is great.

BTW : Before buying I looked up the fuel consumption figures and was impressed by the 50+ mpg quoted for longer journeys. I only do short journeys mostly but even so I dont seem to get more than 30mpg does this sound right?

Also the electric boot release more often than not goes clunk clunk clunk about 3 or 4 times when I press the button and more often than not you need someone standing by the boot to quickly lift it or it stays locked.

Anyone with similar experiences?

I'm not familiar with the models/engines fitted, but if that is a diesel then it sounds to be a poor mpg unless you are doing lots of very short distances. To be sure, you need to check it on a longer journey and brim to brim. Automatic also makes for 5 -10% less.

Driven reasonably and over a good distance, you should expect 45 to 50mpg if it is in reasonable condition. If not, then search for posts on EGR, MAF, PCV and checking the air filter.

As it happens, my boot release started doing the clunk, clunk, clunk last week - I have yet to investigate the problem, but last time I checked it was back to normal. I suspect it might be due perhaps to moisture - it normally lives in a dry garage, but last week it lived out in some quite heavy rain.
