I was woken just after 5.00am by what sounded like a huge flock of wood pigeons sitting on the bedroom window cill - 'cooing' as loud as they could, pesky pests
Shoot em .
Their delicious.

Very remiss of me - I've started wittering on without saying - MORNING ALL !
Cold, wet & miserable this morning, so I think I'll pass on spending the day in the garage continuing my tidy up.
Can't go out, as we're expecting delivery of a new mattress - under warranty. We bought a complete new bed back in August (cost an arm and a leg) but the mattress has developed (I'm going to regret saying this aren't I ) a huge hump in the middle. To be fair, the suppliers (Rest Assured) haven't quibbled - came out, had a look and immediately agreed to replace with a brand new one.

Embarrassing admission number 1. Went to the Club's AGM last night - where you're expected to wear collar and tie. I couldn't find a shirt in the wardrobe which allowed me to fasten the collar button - so had to get Angela to do a bit of stitching
This morning, I checked, and all the other 16 1/2" collar shirts had also shrunk by about 3/4"

  • A68 Northwards through Corbridge, Kielder Forest and onto Jedburgh (via the border at Carter Bar where we meet the Scots lads in April) and on to Galashiels.
  • The A68 again, but turn Westwards for Hexham onto the A69 - the road runs more or less parallel to Hadrians Wall. Between Hexham & Haltwhistle is the excavated Roman Fort & village of Vindolanda (no - that's NOT a curry!) - another 'must see'. Follow A69 to the outskirts of Carlisle, & then head North on the A7 through Hawick and Selkirk to Galashiels.
  • The East coast of Northumberland is well worth a viewing - heading South from the Scottish Border. Leave the A1 South of Berwick and drop in at Holy Island (you can only cross the Causeway at low tide, so you'd need to pre-plan your arrival time - but DEFINITELY worth it) - see the magnificent Bamburgh Castle, have a detour into the fishing port of Amble etc.
As you said Rod, there are so many options. Jedburgh I'd recommend, the abbey and Mary Queen of Scots house although the house isn't nearly as good as it used to be. My Granny used to be the curator but last time we visited was a let down, most of the exhibits have vanished to other museums, now a stupid little gift shop selling tourist tat in what was the kitchen!

Holy Island, yes but bear in mind its a cold hole even in summer! Bamburgh, again yes. The walls at Berwick again yes. Going up through the borders, via Hawick etc, scenery is OK but there's not much worth seeing in Hawick, Gala or Selkirk these days. Fish & Chip shop on the harbour in Eyemouth definitely yes! Fish comes off the boat about 10 yards away and into the shop.
