Completed a radiator replacement on the 1.8TT Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, All in probably 6 or 7 hours over 2 days taking my time about it - including swapping out the bottom engine mount and searching for spare fasterners for the undertray and under ducting and getting it put back right instead of the dogs dinner that it was.

Noticed the bonnet pull lever on the Cowley car was not returning properly,
so took the connector block housing off, took the cables out of the block
and liberally oiled the cables and greased the block. The lever to the block
cable was the problem, once oiled worked perfectly. Also cleaned and oiled
the catches on the slam panel slackened the 8mm bolts then just nipped them.
Now got an easy silky smooth bonnet pull

Changed the oil and filter on my 190, decided to try fully synth 5w 40, I know there are thoughts either way on this.

I used a can of Wynnes engine flush first and did exactly as it said on the tin then took out the plug and left it for an hour, it was up on two pallets (one under each wheel ) only because it gives more crawl space and of course as the drain plug is at the back it probably helps to get a bit more old oil out of the sump, filled and fitted a Framm filter, sump plug back in then filled with triple QX 5w 40 synthetic oil (acea A3/B4)

Now it may be my imagination, but I'm sure it sounds a bit better, It seemed to me that I could hear the burble of the exhaust a little more than before (because the engine is quieter) and possibly a little more of the (normal) sound of the belts there certainly was no tappety sound or rattle as has been described by some other V6 owners.

I'll keep a close eye on it and see what happens

I've been using 5/40 fully synthetic on my K series engines for years. No more "rattly" start ups from cold and the spec exceeds the old recommendations anyway.

I think maybe some engines have had a hard life, erratic servicing and probably rattled because of this, it's only a few hours and I might be wrong but mine certainly sounds better to me, time will tell

Replaced front drop links today. Had to use an angle grinder to cut them off.
Used d2p auto parts drop links payed £13.99 removed the gaiters and packed them with grease before fitting. Hopefully a cheap fix for a few years.
Did the same with the last ones about 3 years ago

5/40 was always the oil specified for North American V6 Freelanders so no harm in using it.
Semi-synth is very hard to get here so I have been using 5/40 full synth in my KV6s with no issues.

fixed the door mirrors by following an excellent write up to clean the switch contacts. I wonder if the author thought his post would still be useful 13 years later. Thanks to all who contribute to this site - it is a great collection of knowledge.
