Default Xtron fitting - 2 questions

Hi, I’ve bought a new xtrons double din unit to replace a faulty one and have a couple of questions:

1. The steering wheel controls don’t work with the existing unit - will the new one work or do I need an adapter?

2. The new unit has DAB, but I’ll need to install an aerial to use it. I’ve heard the window mount aerials aren’t much cop and I don’t fancy sticking an aerial on the roof. Is there one that can fit discretely under the rooflining and do the job?

Cheers

I've got an Xtrons too and used the following to get my steering wheel controls working: Blue / orange to black (earth / ground) and blue / purple to key 1 then programme the buttons on the stereo with the SWC app

I've used the standard aerial and have excellent radio reception.

Regards

Regarding dab reception I think it depends on the where you generally travel.I found the screen Ariel struggled to provide a stable signal in rural locations and with the weaker stations.Luckily a former forum ICE trader was able to fit me an amplified sharkfin and reception is now excellent under most conditions and in nearly all locations. The scan also found another 20+ stations more than the glass Ariel.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Sadly, on attempting to fit it, the one I’ve bought has leads that are not compatible with those in the wiring loom. The eBay ad said it was compatible with 75/ZT but I’m guessing perhaps only with the mk.2? Any thoughts on what to do to get it working or what replacement unit I should get would be appreciated. Cheers

Early cars had BMW connectors, round pins, later were changed to ISO, which is probably on your unit. You'll need BMW to ISo connector

Thanks for the tips. All sorted and working now except for the DAB which I will have to sort another time.

Try these folks for the ariel:

Worth a call to chat to them. I've found their service & knowledge to be good.

Good Luck.
