May I ask what tests the unit actually performs and the readings it provides?

Also, has anyone opened one up to see what's inside?

I am always dubious about small, lightweight battery testers being anything more than a simple voltmeter.

Indeed to test a battery it needs to be put under load to show all the cells are working correctly. A simple volt meter will not do this.

Having read the instructions, as MSS says it appears to be nothing more than a simple voltmeter. This is hardly surprising really for £10. You could obtain the same results using the built-in instrument pack diagnostics.

Yes Simon, it may be nothing more than a simple voltmeter and I could get the same info from the instrument pack.

BUT

How do I check the batteries in the other family cars?
The family bus, Sedona people carrier, my sons Corsa or his brothers Insignia or their sisters KA

Yes I do have another simple multi-meter in the garage which I could use.
I haven't tested a battery with the new meter yet, hopefully at the weekend.
