I'm back - decided not to post over the weekend. I thought it was for the best.

So...

Costing
I've totted up some of the known costs on my first post and excluding the gearbox, I'm at £2,195. Expecting costs to peak around the £3k-ish mark.

Do bear in mind that I will have no labour costs (remap excluded) plus the experience of a highly skilled Aston/Jag/Lotus mechanic (dad) at hand for the entire job.

The 'Drive'
I've no idea what to expect 'drive' wise but note that this is not an everyday car. This is a weekend car - I commute to the City. I can take this off the road and spend time doing it properly.
If I want a nice ride I'll hop in the MG3.

When do I start?
Not sure - I need to think over a few bits and I don't find out my annual bonus until Wednesday hehe.

Why am I doing this?
I just want 'more'.
I've all the main mods like MG7 lights, genuine premium bumper (albeit with MG7 grille), genuine skirts, sadly copy spats, freshly powder coated apexes and recently refurbed 190 brakes with Goodridge hoses to name but a few things.
Now I want more power. Not to speed or to be a lout. Just because I can. We all have our hobbies.

I understand that we all have our preferences and ideas on what these cars should be.

I'm taking my inspiration from MG. No great budgets. Just great engineering and ideas. That is what will make this car an MG.
Good on you I hope Geraint comes back as well so we can follow both your projects

That guy is doing what I'm doing... but on steroids hehe.

He's a top bloke with a fountain of knowledge, cannot wait to see how his motor turns out.

Imo before you even touch turbo sit and have a chat with someone like this.

I believe 100% your going to be talking custom cams, am over bore to around 1900cc, custom pistons and values along with porting work on the head.

A larger turbo, not massively larger say something confirming with t28 spec, which is essentially a t25 hybrid turbo. Will easily run around 22 to 23 psi maximum.

But you won't need all of it.

Assuming the bottom end doesn't need any work and you can get it mapped to the point it runs then next step for me is clutch and gearbox.

I'm unsure how our car boxes will react to say 300bhp this guy has a 290 bhp turbo k series in a metro.

Dam good starting point to look here.

That kinda power would be incredible, and I dare say interesting especially if it was in a 75,talk about sleeper then!
Hey bud

Thanks for the link, I'll have a good mooch...

I am more than likely going to be buying a spare engine as I think I'd miss my car having it off the road.
VVC lump is a potench starting point.

We shall see..

Glad to see you here and going for it.

Don't forget to detail it for us, very exciting indeed.

Are you in the MGOC? They may like to do an article on it?

Once things are all sorted I will surely open a build thread

Funnily enough I'm not actually in the MG0C - coming up to my 7th year of MG ownership so maybe I should sign up.

Have the club ever written an article on Geraints build? His completely and utterly supersedes my ambitions!

Very sadly not. They cover the, what I call, real MGs. I am trying to get them to look at the modern ones more as I feel there is HUGE potential for them. Perhaps if more of us joined they would have to sit up and take notice????

So join up.

Ah I see.
I do get it and understand that classic MG's are the 'pedigree'.
For their own survival I would've thought they'd tap into the Z range a bit though.

I may be wrong but didn't they organise Z10 at Duxford aerodrome?

I spoke to z and f about mapping mems 3 for larger injectors and remap and as long as you have all the details of the injectors they can map them in, mini gearbox is of the same family as the 75 and zt so may be interchangeable and may have trick diff,

If you have traction control then that will help,

My worry would be drivability as the k series is not the most torquey of lumps otherwise 300bhp I don't see as a issue in anyway, gearbox in genral wouldn't be to bad as a 160bhp diesel creates a massive amount of torque.

ZandF gave me the impression that MEMS3 can be tinkered with to your hearts content which saves a small fortune in not having to buy an engine management system.

My dad mentioned the mini gearbox... I like the idea of a 6 speed

That's an interesting point about the diesel and torque. Maybe it'll be a case of see how it goes. If it works, great, if not, knowing the Mini works is a decent fall back.

Mini gearbox?

I can tell you now if there's a way to fit a 6 speed Cooper S transmission with the lsd then that would be a fantastic option, but you could be talking 1500 for a box and diff.
