Default AA Insurance renewal

Hi all,
It’s my insurance renewal time. The current insurer’s the AA’s renewal price is nearly their value of the car for fully comp. I live in Manchester so kick off with a loading because of my location. But 20 years NCB, and RoSPA advanced driver, passed a few years ago.
Any ideas would welcome.
Geoff.

The value of the car isn't really going to affect the insurance premiums all that much.

Use one of the comparison sites such as Confused.com to see what they come up with from other companies.

I used Topcashback Compare to get quotes and then insured through Saga. I technically don’t have any no claims, as I’ve had company cars for years. Premium was £159 fully comp with two additional named drivers and I got £40 cashback on top.

The AA are notorious for hiking up their renewal prices.

Have you tried LV or Hastings Premier.

There was a recent change to insurance to protect current and loyal customers from paying more than new customers.

If possible, obtain a quote online using your existing details with aa but change the email address.

If your quote comes back lower than your renewal at this point, save the reference number. Double check your details are correct and then phone them. Explain your findings and give them the reference number.

I've done this on a few occasions. They have to honour the lower price as for the reasons above. However with the rising costs generally prices do rise for everyone. So it's still worth shopping around.

Try admiral/diamond. Been with them for years myself and not had any issues and have always been the cheapest for us.

...........

You are absolutely right about this recent regulation.

The way that the insurance industry seems to be getting around it is by comparison sites - which translates to new customers - offering gift vouchers.

We've insured three cars this year via Confused.Com quotes and have received £40, £20 and £20 vouchers from the comparison site. I chose Halfords but they offer the option of a few retailers.

I think Martin Lewis advises that the optimum time to seek quotes or requotes is between 14 & 21 days prior to renewal date.
At this point you have time to shop around so insurers quote competitively, nearer you get to renewal, companies know your 'over a barrel' so can stand firm with quotes. Believe that's the theory anyway, sounds logical.

The AA are brokers who find cheap insurance for you. I was with them for a few years but prices kept going up and when I phone they reduce it. I didn’t bother phoning this time and got insured through SAGA so I phoned the AA to say I wouldn’t be renewing only to twig when I read him the AA reference it was in fact SAGA too but he couldn’t match the price direct from SAGA.

Thanks for all your replies.
I have got Rev Jules’ recommendation of Hastings Premier, via MSS’s Confused dot com, which I will be taking up.
Biffa75’s recommendation of going back to the AA on an alternate e Mail address - no thanks as I don’t want a repeat of all the waiting in priority phone waiting queues. I was also aware of Biffa’s mention of new/ current customer premium ruling.
Again, thanks to you all for your thoughts
Geoff
