Default AAAHHH! Fell for the rear shunt manoeuvre

Hi,
I can't believe it, but I've just fallen for this trick, which seems to be a speciality of a certain section of the community. I approached a large roundabout at about 7.15pm tonight, traffic very quiet. He slowed, then moved off, I look left to check its clear and when i look back, he's stopped.

No cars coming round the roundabout!! Small impact!! I gave my details and said I would pay for the damage (slight) but to be honest I'm convinced it was already damaged, there's hardly a mark on RJ. I got my camera out of the car and took some pic's but the reaction from the blokes was unbelievable!! Hoods over their faces, threatening to stick the camera where it hurts etc.

They really are a valuable addition to our society!!! I've already had a similar experience were they claimed whiplash even though there was no impact. I await the outcome with interest. I'll keep you posted.

Regards

The rude cheeky swine's, sorry to hear of your recent headache. It does sound from your writing that they did do it on purpose, was there any reason at all for them to stop? I'd for one be making sure they don't get away with it if that's the case, good luck and keep us up to date.

Well lad, if I was you, I wouldnt phone the police and report the matter to them. Covers you, bottom line if they dont report it to the Police within 72 hours there is no worry as thats the requirement under the uk road traffic act, as legally you can deny any knowledge of it.

Give them 3 days, and after that say tough luck.

Isn't it a legal responsability of both parties to report it to the police?

When done idiot hit me I went straight to the Police station and they told me that the other party has 72 hours to report it otherwise they were breaking the law. As you are the party that hit the other you are required to report it.

Even if you don't like it you were at fault by not paying enough attention.

Yes and no. If you caused the accident it is not your responsability to do so unless they wish to go through insurance, which case they should have phoned the police from the scene. If they left the scene first without reporting to Police (even over a phone line to confirm details), then they themselves have actually null and voided any claim they can make. Certainly thats the Road Traffic laws in NI which i imagine are same as rest of uk?

Hmmmm as I recall some years ago when involved in a "shunt", the police were called and said since no one was injured we need not have reported it at all. Exit police ... Mike.
