Rover 75 tourer central locking problem
Hi all,
I'm having some trouble with my 75 estate, every time I lock the car I get a short beep from the horn indicating an open door. However all doors are firmly closed and locked but the interior light will not go out and the alarm goes off after a few minutes killing the battery. Also whilst driving the open door / bonnet warning light comes and goes bringing the interior light on with it. Any suggestions as to how I go about curing this. I've tried some WD40 on the all the locks & catches an left the battery disconnected overnight in an attempt to rested the system. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated! Cheers, James |

Hi, usually the bonnet switch that plays up, but I dont remember interior lighting coming on when mine did that. Pop the bonnet switch out the slam panel and disconnect the wiring then try to lock the car. Mine was wet. So a dose of WD40 solved the issue. Lee.

As Lee said it's probably the bonnet switch. Mine did what yours did and my cure was to tape a 2 pence piece to the bonnet so that it contacts the switch when shut.
Basically just adjusts the clearance on the bonnet enough to make the switch work. Mine's been like that for the past 6 years! Mick |

Lithium grease your doors in cold weather, white wd40 can with yellow markings is what I use. Bonnet switch maybe but on a cold snap even if doors locked system thinks one or more is open. Mine did this in 2014 and hasn't since I got into the winter regime habit. Since I was at daughters at Christmas in Salisbury centre I spent a few nights sitting awake as the only alternative was to leave unlocked, the alarm sounds after about 5 mins if you leave it like that. The above can also save your door rubbers from sticking and getting ripped.
