Default Did a double take yesterday! !!!!!

Cruising along the A45 on Saturday coming out of Northampton when I'm overtaken by my dream car!!!!!!!!

A DMC DE-LOREAN

Surprisingly it was no Minter as you would expect these rare and expensive cars to be cossetted and treated better then the wife. The bare metal body needed a Damn good polish (to me it looked like a looked after daily driver type condition).

Noted the reg, and checked its history and since 1983 its done 2,300 miles. It was a left hooker so that maybe since it was Imported though.

It still looked darned sexy though

They never set the world on fire in terms of performance but they are still a mad car to this very day. I would love to have a go in one and relive the Back to the Future childhood dreams.

Weren’t they all left hookers? And a sort of brushed alloy finish (which must be a real pain to maintain)?

The DMC 12 was never designed to be a right hand drive car, although they were adapted and some converted. Wikipedia states 16 were made at the factory. My grandfather worked at the plant for a short time, and from him, I learned they werent expected to sell in the UK. Not at first, and certainly not of the 12. Although they (the workforce) were told that in the future more models would come.

A lot of documentation exists within the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland for DeLorean. LINK - search Delorean.

My Grandfather worked at the plant too.

My great grandfather worked on the Titanic.

As far as I know, my family is not responsible for the demise of all good things, just those two.

No, it was an American and an Englishman that were the causes of their demise

Funnily enough, my great grandfather was supposed to work on the titanic as a ship steward (according to family lore, but my grandmother was pregnant at the time, so didn't go - but then everybody here had family that worked on or in the titanic lol).

I still have an original sales brochure, his delorean pass and union card somwhere. I have long since used the drill bits that came from the factory, though shh ; )

I was lucky enough to drive one a few years ago but I was very disappointed. Not that fast bit was also very claustrophobic.

You could tell it was designed for the US market, quite softly sprung and not the best build quality. At the time I could have bought it for £13k, I wish I had bought it now, better than any savings account I know of.
