Default Dodgy parking sensor!

Hi all

Rear parking sensors giving a constant beep as though it's seeing an object behind.
Q1 can I shut them off or turn them down while I diagnose?
Q2 what is the likely cause of sensor failure?

These are factory fitted on a 75 connie tourer.

Any help most gratefully received as the constant beeping is annoying the wife!

Willie

A constant tone shows a fault with the system.
Possibly a wiring fault, or water in the plugs.
The sensors can be checked apparently by putting car in reverse (without engine running of course) and listening to each sensor in turn. A feint noise should be coming from each sensor.
Haven't tried it myself though, this is just from reading up on here I'm waiting for my sensors to arrive so I can retrofit

Cheers Steve, if this wind and rain lets up at any point I'll be checking that out.

Oddly, first reverse this morning and all was working well, second reverse constant tone.

I guess if a sensor fails I'd get no tone, rather than a constant one?

Hmm, more homework I think!

No, I think if a sensor fails you'll still get a constant tone.
The only time you'd get no tone is if the Control Unit fails.

I was told that corrosion on the sensor(s) causes constant bleeping. I have one that has a little crust on it that I assume is causing the bleeping. Sometime all the time; other time not at all.
I am going to try scraping off the crust and see what happens

Experienced the same symptoms with permantent bleeping.
I discovered corrosion on two of the rear sensors and so I scraped the bit of surface paint off plus the whitish corrosion underneath which was not visible, of course. They now work perfectly again and all I had to do was touch in the small scraped surface areas.

It should work, worked on mine, occasionally mine reverts to constant beep, so I get out, rub thumb over sensors and they're back to normal.
