I have an auto-dim mirror but have never fitted it & l don't think l will either. It sounds as if it could annoy me no end by taking the decision out of my hands. Just like auto-wipers, the ones on my wife's Fiesta are plain irritating in auto mode.

I've not not driven it much at night, but on Friday I was.

Basically, does it work. YES. It works.
Does it work all the time, or rather when I need it to work. NO

I've noticed that a car with "standard" non dazzling headlights will cause it to darken.
But, I've noticed that if a vehicle has these more modern "turn the road into daylight" headlights, the damn thing wont operate!

I have a theory, I may be well off the mark, but it goes like this.
The mirror shouldn't darken in actual daylight.
So, if the car behind headlights have a beam which is in the daylight spectrum, it fools the sensor and so wont darken.
Does this sound possible?

Many thanks for any ideas and help!

Yes you're right it's because the wavelength of the light is different and the sensor isn't able to cope with it

I absolutely love my auto-wipers, I can just turn it on and forget about keeping the screen cleared. They are that good, I always leave them on auto except when I need the high speed (rarely). The only annoyance is that if I pull in for fuel etc. on a wet day, I have to turn the off then back on to restart them.

I found out (or relearned) the other day, whilst trying to save a few seconds - that the boot release is inhibited unless the car is stationary.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

I don't have an issue with cars behind dazzling and the mirror not dimming. I don't notice it dimming in the day but then I don't expect it to.
As for reversing in and out of a garage, use the wing mirrors. I don't think either of my cars have the reverse wire connected.
As for fitting a manual mirror, goodness no, I'm so impressed by auto dim. I too wear glasses for driving.

Perhaps my auto dim might be a little faulty?
Anyway, manual dip now fitted, drove the car in the dark last night, and happy with the result.
I'll keep the auto dim I took off for when I sell the car. But no plans to just yet!
