That was close...
I was driving the dreaded M25 on Wednesday when a Romanian lorry driver decided to move into my lane, apparently failing to see I was alongside him and overtaking. I still don't know what possessed him to move across, but I suspect he may have been dozing at the wheel.
Amazingly the damage to my car was light; the front wing has suffered paint burn due to contact with the lorry tyre, as the rear bumper. The nearside door has a shallow dent. i was expecting to see a crunched nearside when I pulled onto the hard shoulder. I managed to get the lorry driver's green card and insurance details and Esure has agreed to repair. Watch this space!

I had a very similar experience recently but fortunately managed to avoid contact. You are fortunate they didn't try and write it off.

I had a near mis this Sunday traveling up the A38, but the truck was British.
The way he started to sway and encroach my lane made me also think he was dozing at the wheel. Luckily I managed to get out of his way, but it was nearly a brown trouser moment! Glad you've managed to get the insurance company to repair, and glad it wasn't much worse.

An interesting pattern of damage, I would have expected much worse in contact with an HGV
Insurance, I'm surprised they are willing to pay for a new door and repaint, never mind the other bits, especially as the front door is NLA. Your car looks to be a common colour, I'd be tempted to replace the door and be done with it, I can foresee lots of future wrangling with the insurers, and despite the current assurances to the contrary, the car being written off. Best of luck, I fear you may need it. |

Some back and forth with Esure, culminating in a claims assistant telling me the car was a total loss with repair costs in the order of £1500.
I then spoke with one of their Engineers who understood the car was in very good condition for the age/mileage and could see from the P6 in the background that I am an enthusiast and would genuinely use any payout to repair the car. He agreed to give me an in-lieu payout so I could repair myself. Payment came to £575 with an extra £400 if they can claim back excess from third party. No write off. I will arrange for the dent man I know to straighten the door (he is a perfectionist) then down to my local workshop for some paint.

Chris, Not always the case, a couple of years ago I swiped a black Audi (undertaking me on the M1) it was only a tap and the only damage was the drivers soor mirror and paint. With this in mind I always give HGV's plenty of room and respect |

Criminal how a quality car can be written off for minimal damage. My Bentley was with Adrian Flux Insurance a specialist invintage and classic cars. I wonder if insuring a 75 with them they would have a better understanding of the importance of keeping the car alive against the value? I'm not sure just a thought
Can you insure against write off too by paying a premium with an insurer like your no claims protection Food for thought!

Whilst I appreciate everyone's experience and quotes are different, my own experience of Adrian Flux quotes is that I could probably buy another 75 every year just from the savings of not insuring with Adrian Flux. |

Wow just goes to show not all insurances suit everyone. My Bentley fully comp protected was £180 a year and my Jag 3.0 V6 fully comp protected £220.
My point though was not cost but write off protection.
