I like the way you use the word”it” to describe the perpetrator Rob. Good use of language there, not fit to be referred to as a human being

He was 28 years old and imprisoned in 2012 when he was 20 with the crime being committed when he was 18. His radicalisation, a metaphor for mass murder school, was probably started as a youngster.

So we are led to believe his imprisonment for eight years among other similar minded offenders will have sufficiently reprogrammed him to be a benefit to the society that fed and clothed him for a long time before his ‘awakening’.

I’m guessing his attitudes in prison, developed further among comrades, upon release were possibly hardened rather than mitigated. Our structures are badly letting us down in the leniency principles we adopt. Sentences for these crimes are pathetic, they are not ordinary crimes.

They should be classed as what they really are; enemies of the state until proven otherwise. A spy gets 20 or more years. They should be carrying very different penalties than ‘ordinary’ murder with none of the half-term serving rubbish.

As said earlier, the innate bravery of the public shines out and underlines the difference in humanity.

Default RIP Jack Merritt

One of the victims

Someone who was there - at an event - to help others.

How terribly sad.

How awful that such true ignorance and prejudice lead to the death of such a wonderful person who had such awesome potential.

Totally agree Chris, apart from being a known terrorist, anyone carrying a knife should get a minimum 10yr sentence, no arguments.

Its about time the intelligence on these people was shared and acted upon.

Once a terrorist, always a terrorist, and should never be released.

The second victim named as Saskia Jones - a Cambridge graduate aged just 23.

So - one of the brightest people with enormous potential killed by an ignorant cretin with no potential at all.

Ass holes like this should just be shot on sight and buried immediately with no ceremony and no naming publicly so they don’t attain martyr status

Totally agree Les, the only way. As I said above, once a terrorist, always a terrorist, the leopard ain’t going to change its spots, keeping them in jail just gives them the opportunity to glean more ideas, and become more radicalised. I read on BBC text news about some murderer who was acquitted of murder after slaying 3 people who he suspected to be paedofiles, on the grounds of insanity. The jury agreed he “didn’t know it was illegal”.
