V6 catch tank?
Hi all,
Ive just bought a catch tank from ebay and its turned up however... i dont have anywhere that i can put it!. D1 SPEC Racing Oil Catch Tank Can (color :red, blue, black, silver ... Where ive seen most others fitted (side of battery next to the inlet manifold) mine is a very tight fit and is in contact with the inlet manifold and the oil level indicator tube is barely visible. Even with removing to top of the catch tank and rotating it around etc. The second place i tried is on the drivers side bulkhead however i found theres an electric plug in the way, twisting and joggling allows me around this however its a very tight fit with the accelerator cables routing . What is the best solution?. Is it okay for the tank to be "touching" the catch tank? Failing that... is it okay if theres a little bit of a tight fit with the accelerator cable?. Ive looked at lots of photographs and topics on here and many other forums, i appear to either have a too larger tank.. or its because i have cruise control? Failing all this... could anyone point me to a "budget" tank that will fit?. Im pretty certain a catch tank will help my r75 as when i removed the hose under the airbox there was a funny oil/creamy oil in the bend section of the hose and all inside the throttle body was oily too. I also believe this could possibly be the cause of the brief blue smoke ive been experiencing on cold start up.. Thanks in advance Rob |

Hi Rob.
I have a similar issue. Most V6's with catch tanks have removed the standard air inlet box and gone with an air intake system. This then gives you plenty of room to mount a catch can. My last ZT had the airbox removed and the catch tank was actually mounted on the airbox bracket. With the original airbox in place there is very little room and i cant find anywhere to put the can. I was going to look lower in the engine bay to be honest because i want to keep the airbox. With airbox (this is a 190) Without airbox (previous 190)

Why don't you just maintain a decent oil level so it doesn't need it? Never had a catch tank on a v6 and they've all been fine.

Mines also on the bulk head where the fuel line comes up there is a small area that ust fits a round catch tank.Have now run it of the smaller breather pipe as the large one was only getting mucky condensation water in it !!!

Well... its fitted! Its a tight fit but i managed it, fair to say i "think" its already helped as theres already been a misting of oil inside the tube leading out of the tank. Throttle reponse appears smoother too. As it used to chug and occasionally kangaroo juice and stall at low speeds.. the breather hoses were taken off and soaked in "gunk" overnight and there was a fair amount of cack that came out.
Thanks guys Rob |
