not so. advise insurance at time you insure it that no tax and mot. Also
a lot of insurance polices do not seem to be void if no mot, think of the fun police would have doing people for no mot and insurance.

Yes so !! You are correct to say you must advise your insurer, but If you are driving a car with no MOT it is deemed unroadworthy. Insurance companies can declare your cover void. leaving you to foot the repair bill. Even if the insurance company does decide to pay for third party damage you can be sure they won't pay for your repair costs.
Of course, I should have added in my first post that should you need to claim on your insurance. Not having an MOT will not automatically void your insurance.

sorry I cannot agree, if you notify your insurance company at the time you take out the insurance that you have no mot and no tax but want to use it on a public road to get to a pre booked mot and they still insure you then on what grounds can they not cover you when driving your car to an mot which you can do without a valid mot and tax can they then refuse to cover a claim?

I would also point out that as the government seem to allow you to drive to and from a pre booked mot without mot and tax, this would also support my claim that you are insured.

As we probably wont agree and to avoid anyone being uninsured, anyone reading this, ask your insurance company if you are covered if you take your car to and from an mot testing station for a pre booked mot without tax or a valid mot.

If you are saying that if you are driving without an mot on a "daily" basis then you are not insured, again I think you are wrong but I could be wrong so cannot argue the point

I made the mistake of telling my insurers that I was insuring it and then taking it for an MOT. I was then told that they don't insure cars with no MOT. You cant win sometimes. The insurer was NFU mutual.

I do believe a lot of call centres for insurers do not actually know the exact detail of the road traffic acts and how it affects insurance. My view is if you have correct insurance and the vehicle is on the road legally, which driving to a prebooked mot is, they cannot withdraw the insurance on that basis . I had the same issue when riding an imported old unregistered motorcycle to get an mot to register it, a number of insurers stated I was not legal to use it on the road when in fact you can. On that basis they were saying I wouldn't be insured. Eventually I found an insurer who understood the legislation.

I had a no-fault accident in my wife's car three years back. When the assessor inspected the car he commented that the MoT had expired a few days before the accident (my oversight) but we were paid out fully for the repairs regardless.
So l guess it depends on the insurance company.
