Default Saying Goodbye to Rodney after 9 1/2 years

Purchased my Rover 75 on the day of William and Kate's marriage - while the rest of the country was doing pretty much nothing - I was wheeling and dealing and getting into my first Rover 75.

It's been a fantastic journey, but over the last 2 years, it's pretty much been my spare car for occasional driving. My last big trip was a day trip from Manchester to London in January, 400 miles of pleasure. But that was also pretty much my last trip.

Due to surgery in February, I was unable to drive for 8 weeks - then of course lockdown, So it's been on SORN since March.

Decided rather than let it sit on the driveway, let's try and find Rodney a new home. He only had 68,000 miles and apart from some age related body scratches, car was in great condition.

Knocked up a quick ad on autotrader - I was very pleased with the response I had. First person who called arranged to see it within 1/2 hour, and the car was sold a few minutes later. We just needed to wait a few days for the new log book to come, as I was retaining my personal registration.

What surprised me was the number of calls and emails I did receive, some of which were wanting to give me a deposit even before seeing it. I have no doubt that some of those enquiries would have been tyre kickers offering me squat. I'll never really know, but you get a hunch from the questions being asked.

Today the new log book arrived and my Rodney has a new home as of late this afternoon.

I wish him well in his new life and hope that he gives his 3rd owner as much joy as he gave me.

Your parting with Rodney is so similar to my farewell to Gilbert the mighty Rover in July this year. Like yourself I was using the car less and less, and the final straw was on the mot when tyres with 6mm of tread were adjudged defective due to tyre wall cracks through lack of usage. I managed to place Gilbert in a good home where I know he will be used and enjoyed, but have the fondest memories of nine years of ownership. Two months on I have not the slightest doubt it was the right thing to do.
