Bit of an odd question, but has anyone had or heard of the diesel 75 having a runaway problem? I have done a bit of a search and I have to admit it has made think a little bit.. but what are the chances of it happening and should it put me off?

No chance of it happening if you change the PCV filter, also never heard of any 75 doing it Freelander 1 yes.

As a newbie, not heard of runaway problem, didn't see it mentioned in buyers guide, can some one fill me in

I think it is very very rare for any diesel but if you have a manual, put it in gear, foot hard on the brakes and release the clutch, let the car stall.
Also starve the engine of air, block up the air intake if the need arises.
I would not let it put you off there are other things to worry about with cars that are more likely to happen, how many makes have had a car go up in flames?

Here is the link to the runaway Freelander. Same engine as ours but as above change the PCV filter regular say every 2 years minimum 12 months is better and no such thing can happen.

Thanks for the replies folks,

Least it's not a common problem, I know there's other worries a car can present, if it doesn't really happen or the percentage of diesels being used on the roads to the percentage of a runaway scanerio happening.. it's must be a pretty small percentage.

I'm do a quick search in regards to the pcv and may just make it part of the annual service in fairness, just for peace of mind.

Best time to change it is when you change the air filter yearly, as the air filter cover as to be removed to get to the PCV filter so every 12 months check and change if you think it is needed .

PCV filter is inside this unit four allen key bolts to remove, and maybe the leak back lines

Remove the wiring to the injectors 5mm socket.

lift the unit up and out.

Change the seals that come with the new PCV filter.

Add the new PCV filter and close up.

All part of a good service you should do when first purchasing the Rover 75 diesel.

I was just looking for a guide on this. Hugely appreciated! Doesn't look too difficult to do either. Should we buy a 75 it will be done as part of the service soon after buying.
