Hi Rob.
As a few have said above the car will either grow on you or test your nerve & patience, rear light seal are available from Jezzer on here, there is no cover over the pollen filter in the plenums, the vibration at the rear could be the tyres, i note its never failed a MOT i wonder if the recent advisories have been dealt with since it past its last MOT. good luck Don't forget those belts Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories): Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material front to rears corroded (1.1.11 (c)) Offside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)) Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)) Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)) Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)) Nearside Front Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.1.3 (b) (i))

Thanks for the replies
In truth this is my second 75 the last one I owned was a copperleaf 2.0 v6 on a Y plate which I believe was a pre project drive example having the rover logo embossed into the head rests, the small rover badge near the rear doors and such. Unfortunately at the time we were finding it a little thirsty and too costly however things have changed since then (wife now drives so has lowered the mileage out on one car and is now spread over two cars) The belts I would like to do asap but funds can't quite stretch to it yet but as soon as I can I'll be getting them done. Not sure who would be able to do them though is there a specialist in the West Yorkshire area? The advisories on the last mot are a little bit of a mystery as the brake pipes front to rear appear perfectly fine no signs of rust and are still painted. The tyres just appear a little old but not too bad on tread and the shoulders of each tyre are okay. As for the track rod end advisory it could explain the slight knock over certain bumps but I can do the track rod end myself ( will most likely do the other side too) and do it when I get the tyres sorted. For the light seals, I'm thinking as a temporary fix, just use some silicone sealant for now and if it stops water getting in, then I will buy the gaskets and remove the sealant. My last 75 had a similar issue after some head scratching and sealing up the lights and belt line trim we finally cured it. Thanks Rob |

I think for the price I paid for the car I was expecting a few jobs to do as it appears the used car market has changed in recent years. (Paid £1295). The days of buying a car for 500-600 quid that is fair with mot that donesnt need many jobs doing appear to have gone over recent years. we have seen plenty of cars for more than £1k that had four bald tyres, rotten exhaust, sills with holes etc. I felt for the money and mileage and not history it represented a caring ownership and the recent advisories aren't major just an extra cost but if I can possibly spread the costs and get the jobs done before the next mot, all should be okay. Thanks Rob |

For the light seals Rob, they split along a seam, you can simply glue the ends back together, the turn over and fit to the other light, same with the other side

Thanks Andy
I've been having a little look around the car yesterday. The GPS doesn't detect the cd and the original did have a few scratches so made a "backup" of the cd for testing purposes. I've found it will intermittently work. When the GPS option is available and I click it it will sometimes load up the screen asking city so when I select W from the alphabet on the bottom of the screen and then select the next letter it appears to freeze. Only way to get around this is by turning the ignition off, turning the ignition back on the screen loads up slightly different without the GPS option. I've given the GPS unit in the boot a few gentle taps and noted the power led flickered a few times and now it appears to remain on. I tried going into the "set" option to find the OS sw number but it doesn't show on the top right of the screen? The sat nav unit is the mk3. The car also came with 3 keys (one of the keys is for the boot lock only) The two other keys operate the door locks and ignition and starts the car without issue. However only one key fob works on the remote fob. The other fob doesn't. The led flashes on the fob when pressing the buttons, I changed the fob battery for a known working Duracell battery. Still doesn't operate remotely. I have had a search around the forum for a re-sync procedure and found at least two different re-sync methods. I tried both methods but without success, so not sure what that could be. What is the correct or most used re-sync method? Had a good look in the boot yesterday following a rain shower and found it is the light seals in the boot allowing a little bit of water in. Thanks Rob |
