I have the THO1489 and the temperature hasn't exceeded 84c since I fitted it, even in warm weather and traffic jams.
It does, however, warm up much quicker than it did per in line mod.... |

Update to this - I had fitted the Gates Th01483, following earlier post, which didn't help. On removal, the centre brass section was loose on the thermostat which also didn't help! Rockauto completely disinterested in a warranty replacement, so won't use them again.
Have replaced with a Halfords sourced thermostat, 89C, and much better. Have seen 86C on the display, so not far off. Halfords stat was a QTH144, £8.99 (or £4.59 with trade card). When inserting in the hose, only pushed it in far enough to be able to fully refit the hose to the engine, seems ok. |

I recently fitted this mod, and at the park today ran the engine whilst parked watching the OBD temp. The temp was at 84C when I got there, within seconds of parking it dropped to 79 and stayed at that, the outside fan didn't kick in. The car did get warmer when driven, up to 84c ish..
The heater cools the car very quickly though, but then the outside temp was only 33f so about 0c innit... I'm not complaining though, it was nice sat there wrapped in my nice tartan car rug. Actually, I have a small hairy rug that I got from the pet shop, I wrap that round my legs, then wrap the rug over the top. It's great sat there dunking ginger bikkies and drinking a nice hot coffee, lil dog hanging out of the passengers window, watching the birds skidding about on the frozen lake innit.. Lots of people about walking their dogs, or just walking round the lake for exercise.. very friendly lot too, most stop to pat the dog and say hello.. It's interesting that people do that up here, down South you could sit there for a month and no one would speak to you.. ... |

I ordered a new TH01489 form my local EK Brakes. Im told that its 88c rated and equivelant to QTH268.
I will be fitting it at the weekend in the hope that it will keep me warm on a 600 mile round trip to a funeral on thursday. I hope it works. |

In addition to this, the stat's manufaturer is also imporant. Some R5 stats don't work so well. The ones giving good results are branded Gates, Wahler and FirstLine. TC |

Hello Paolo, I live in Italy I live in Rome and I have 3 75's at the moment (one is a donor ar) all CDTi ones. As I replied You in other posts the inline is a good compromise but not exaclty the same. Here's my experience: with the original thermostat my car reaches up to 89° and, whatever the outside temp when warm, the temperature interval is between 84 to 89. With the inline thermostat I never go over 84°c but, most interesting fact, while running (depending on conditions from the long descents on motorway up to Rome heavy traffic) temperature ranges from 71° to 84° and that's, AFAIK, due to the position where the inlet thermostat is fit. I've used a Gates one. Can't remember if an 82 or 89 one but, whatever thermostat You buy, will never give You the same temperature stability provided by the original designed one. This is obviously based on my experience of 75's ownership since 2006

I always found the thermostat mod to be quite stable - they send to sit between 80 and 85 degrees and doesn't fluctuate much.

I fitted an in line thermostat to my latest "project" as the existing in line one was erratic seemingly not opening at times or opening and closing quickly. Drilled a small hole to help release trapped air at the top hose. Also had to replace the water pump but removed the thermostat from next to the pump and its mounting lugs making fitting the housing much easier. Temp. stays at 9 o'clock once warmed up which is in about 4 miles.

Once fully warmed up, mine sits at about 83 to 84, maybe creeping up to 86 on a long motorway hill. Its pretty stable.
However, if its really cold outside and you allow it to tick over for some time, it will slowly start dropping into the 70's. But as we know, this is why its fitted with a FBH. Inline stat for heading on 4 years, works a treat.
