Default AutoAid Cover - Or Not!

I have recently received notification of the renewal of my AutoAid policy, which is due mid-January.

A couple of changes, they now automatically renew using the last payment method, but, worst of all the cover does now not include vehicles over 15 years old.
See page 33 of the small print here

I am sure that wasn’t the case when I took the policy out. However, one of the problems with on-line documents, rather than hard copies, is that they always refer to the latest T&Cs.

Anyway, if that was the case, I have been merrily driving around, most of the time, with no breakdown cover.

I know a number of our members have AutoAid cover, so this is just to warn anyone else who has a policy with them.

Thanks for posting this, I was thinking of joining just the other day.

It does state "where otherwise stated" or.. words to that effect, so if it states on your policy your vehicle registration or you have at least made them aware in one way or another, surely they have accepted the policy on those terms?

Interesting, I just went to the website for personal cover

https://www.autonational.co.uk/produ...ersonal-cover/

Filled in the details and is says although it is personal cover they would like to know the reg of the main car, then i put the car reg in and it brings up all the car details (1999 Rover 75)
Moving on and on the next page there is a line on the application that is prefilled in and it says
"Cover For Vehicles Over 15 Years Old:" Yes

So it would appear on Personal cover there is a work around?

Thanks Dave,

I have just tried that. If I put one of my cars less than 15 years old it comes up with a renewal price of £59.99.

If I put my 2000 Rover in, it comes up with £74.99.

I am going to think about this!

Could I ask a question about autoaid
As I said, I was thinking of joining, the website states that legal spouse etc would also be covered free. Having never had breakdown cover in 10 years of driving. Does this mean if I cover our 3 main cars. If the wife breakdown on her way to work etc she will also be recovered?

Thanks
Rob

I booted the outfit after it decided that it would renew our contract regardless. I didn't sign up with it for that and so I took back control of my bank account and I booted it.

Yes, the cover is for the car itself. Any driver is therefore covered

I used the AA for the first time this millennium day before yesterday when a spring decided to launch itself through the offside front tyre at 50MPH on the A1.

After a shaky start when the call operator couldn't find my location despite the road name and number and it's intersection with the A1, the patrol arrived and I'm happy to say sorted me out with a temporary universal wheel and followed me home.

Hats off it was bleeting down with snow, and blowing a hooley but nothing was too much trouble for Patrolman Rob.

It may have been a little embarrassing if it had been Pete Barella who turned up though

We used AutoAid for years and I was always happy with them. But it's much more expensive these days.
Now we have a Nationwide FlexPlus account. You pay £13pm and that includes top quality breakdown insurance, mobile phone insurance and travel insurance for a couple and children under 18. So good value if you use two of the three.
Called them out Monday and they arrived within 25mins.

I'm currently with Green Flag on the Mundaneo and upgraded to personal cover when I got the ZT last year. They're another who claim they won't cover vehicles over 15 years old, so I've got until next renewal in September to find out how I go about it.
Those 'added value' bank accounts are great if you're getting your money's worth out of them. As someone who used to work in financial sevices, just make sure you read the small print on them, as there can be some big exclusions (vehicle age, number of call outs, claims etc)
