Anyone know what this Rover 75 item was sold for? ££££.

From memory it went for £2,800 plus fees. Actual result will be on their website (eventually). Amazed that examples of base model cars are now fetching more than Rolls Royces! 2 did not get a bid at £4k, yet Sierras (1.8) made as much.

Not long ago a member asked advice on how to get a good price for his deceased relative's pampered Rover 75. I suggested a classic car auction but he wasn't convinced. He believed that all auctions, classic or not, were full of old bangers and disreputable buyers and sellers who would not be interested in a modern Rover.

I would not be surprised that a Sierra is rarer! No doubt someone will check the DVLA stats.

He must be on another planet to me as a 2005 MGR product would not now be classed (even by me) as modern.

I didn't read the post as being much about status though you might be right. I was looking more at the aspect that a vehicle such as a Sierra (never considered a status symbol) today might be achieve more bids than a younger (Rover) status model. Who knows, one would have to ask all bidders for their reasoning?
