Default DSLR recommendations?

I used to do SLR (35mm) and am thinking of going digital. Any advice gratefully received. Plenty of time to learn now!

Hi,
it greatly depends upon 4 things really : -

1 - what you intend to photograph and where / how
2 - your budget
3 - if you want New or Secondhand
4 - still photos or video as well

Personally I'm a Canon Shooter (Motorsport) i went 40D, 7D to 5D3

Cheers
Colin

I'm trying to get out walking more, so living in rural Norfolk, it would be outdoor scenes and wildlife. As for all the other questions, I'm flexible (or not as that's why I need to get out more!).

My sister is a very keen photographer and usually has at least 3 cameras with her at any time! I asked her advice about a decent replacement for my original digital camera which was bought as a basic at least 8 years ago. She suggested a Sony Cybershot, which is easy to use and small enough for a pocket, and yet has a 20x Zoom. It cost about £170 and I have been very pleased with it.

I would go for a Pentax K-70, dead easy to use, inexpensive great features, weather sealed, can use All legacy lenses from Pentax, or other K-mount manufacturer, e.g Tamron, Sigma, etc, I have a KS-2 which is similar and I am very pleased with it, excellent photos.
If you want to spend more, then go for the K-1, a serious bit of kit.

I've bought a Nikon D5000 and am looking for a 300mm telephoto lens AF-S type (motor in lens). Thanks to all for recommendations.

That should do it. There is so much choice out there, but you've dipped your toe into digital which is much more convenient.
I love my Nikon P900, but it's quite bulky and only a 16meg sensor, but 80 x optical zoom is awesome for wildlife as long as the light is good. You should get better pictures with your set up with better colour rendition than mine, but it's scary how much you could spend on a camera. Hard to believe Kodak rejected going into digital 'cos it wouldn't catch on.

I'm just waiting for a 55-300mm zoom being delivered, so will post some shots when it gets here. Whilst out in the car yesterday I was told to keep my eyes on the road and to stop looking at "shoot" locations!!!

Default Zoom Lens arrived!

First attempt at a handheld telephoto shot!

I hope they don't ask me to change the light bulb on the top!
