Default NHS pay rise or is it cut?

You may have heard that the NHS staff are to get a 1% pay rise.

If you feel that this is insufficient, take a look at this web page, it is a petition, feel free to sign it https://speakout.38degrees.org.uk/ca...urhealthheroes

if you are interested in the cost of an MP, have a look here https://www.theipsa.org.uk/

I would love to see ALL essential workers get a decent pay rise but with all the borrowing that has had to happen, I feel that it will be a long time coming.

The article by Robert Colvile in this week's Sunday Times carefully explains that rather like the Civil Service, Nurses' pay rises through he grades automatically.
In the 2018 settlement which was touted as 6.5% 3 year pay deal, that was the minimum figure - actual salaries would rise by between 6.5% and 29%.

Always two sides to a story.

Don't usually get involved in threads like this but in this instance as my missus is a nurse.

I feel that a pay rise is not very sustainable in the economic situation we find ourselves in. Also as always a % pay rise means more to the higher paid.
I feel it would be fairer for a one off thankyou payment across the board of say £1000 for instance? to all NHS staff. That way the porter who pushed you from ward to ward would feel, and is, as important as the top consultant who actually possibly saved your life.

Our local health staff within our county have received just that. A single payment to all of 10,000 Swedish crowns (about £833), and an added bonus of 500 crowns (£40) per shift for hours that exceed the normal working hours.

All heath care staff includes dentists who must be among the worst exposed and have only in the last week or so received their first jabs. All very slow here. I've just recently received dental implants so have spent a lot of time (and money) there.

Admiration for all of them.

Where do you stop, I think one of the most exposed and undervalued groups are Prison Officers. There aint many hiding places in the slammer when infection is rife. I served 30 years as an Officer during aids, hepatitis, and all manner of lurgies, with the added bonus of daily violence and never felt valued by society enough to be worth a mention, let alone a bonus.

When I read this post, I paused for a while and read it again. I salute you for your service and your courage.

My daughter was a crafts instructor in a women's prison for a time. We were relieved when she found another job.

I would be willing to for go any pension increase to help fund the NHS pay rise

I am more than happy with my £138 per week Old Age Pension

Agreed.
‘Claps for Carers’ won’t pay the household bills !
Which family, either directly or indirectly, hasn’t been very grateful to the NHS ?
My family have needed the NHS a number of times, and yet have never needed the help of a MP, but who has the better pay, expenses and conditions.

The pay rise offered equates to about a cup of take away coffee per week.

I find it disgusting that the government feels that’s all our nhs staff are worth.
